How To Tuesday: Piece together your own “low-cost†gaming PC

It’s another groovy How To from ExtremeTech. This time they’ve pieced together a “less expensive” gaming rig costing around $1540 once assembled (or $2075 including a new keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitor). OK, their last one was more than $4k, and they’ve gone as low as $800, but this one actually looks like it’s fairly affordable and will last a while longer.
Their cobbled system includes:
- CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 ($313)
- Motherboard – ASUS P5NSLI ($108)
- Memory – Corsair TwinX 2048MB PC2-6400 ($280)
- Graphics Cards – 2 x PNY 7900 GS 256MB ($398)
- Sound Card – Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer ($89)
- Hard Drive – Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATA ($95)
- Optical Drive – Lite-On SHM-165H6S DVD+/- DL ($43)
- Case – Antec Super Lanboy ($87)
- Power Supply – Antec Trio 650W ($126)
- Keyboard – Logitech G11 ($60)
- Mouse – Logitech G5 ($46)
- Speakers – Logitech Z4 or Sennheiser PC-165 ($80)
- Display – Viewsonic VX2235VM ($349)
